Homemade Pizza Rolls
Frozen pizza rolls were big on my list of favorites when I was a kid. They were so easy for us to make, and my mother loved that she did not have to try to come up with after school snacks for us when she was busy. Homemade pizza rolls are a great alternative to the frozen processed kind. There are lots of different ingredients you can use in pizza rolls, but I found that pepperoni was easiest to work with, it also tastes really good.
There are just four basic ingredients to this recipe. Pepperoni, cheese, crescent rolls and pizza sauce. All you have to do is unroll the crescents and take a one or two pieces of pepperoni, roll the cheese in the pepperoni, then roll the pepperoni in the crescent dough. It is that quick and easy. These also taste a hell of a lot better than those frozen processed pizza rolls I ate as a kid. For the recipe pictured I used packaged sandwich cheese but string cheese would also work well.
Making pizza rolls with your kids is a great way to teach them about cooking. It is also a great opportunity to teach them about using a Dutch oven around a campfire. Kids love to get involved with what is going on, and they love to poke around campfires. This simple recipe gives them the opportunity with lots of adult supervision of course. To make these in a Dutch oven, just follow the Dutch oven chart on this website to determine the correct amount of coals you will need.
Be sure to exercise caution with kids around a campfire and teach them proper ways of handling fires and food. This website takes no responsibility for accidents or illness incurred while making these recipes.
